1. Definitions
Volta Ryde, Volta Logistics, we, us, our — Volta Ryde Logistics Limited, its agents, subsidiaries, and affiliates.
Platform / Service — the Volta Ryde mobile apps (Rider App, Business App) and web platform that connect riders or businesses with drivers/couriers.
Rider / Passenger — a user who requests transport or delivery services via the Rider App.
Business Customer — a business that uses the Business App to request rides or deliveries, manage fleets, or schedule logistics.
Driver / Courier — a person or company that provides transport or delivery services using our Platform.
Account — the user account (Rider, Business, or Driver) on our Platform.
Trip / Order — a ride or delivery requested via the Platform.
Fare — the amount payable by a Rider or Business for a Trip.
Volta Ryde Fee — the fee that Drivers or Couriers pay to Volta Ryde for use of the Platform.
In-app Payment — payment made through the Platform (for example card or mobile wallet).
2. Acceptance of Terms
By signing up for an Account (as a Rider, Business Customer, or Driver) and using the Platform, you agree to these Terms &
Conditions, as well as any policies referenced here such as our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not
use our Platform.
3. Registration & Use of Accounts
3.1 Account Creation
- You must provide accurate, up-to-date information when registering.
- You are responsible for maintaining your login credentials and for any activity under your Account.
3.2 Eligibility
- Riders must be at least 18 years old, or such age as permitted by local law.
- Drivers must meet local regulatory requirements, including licence, vehicle registration, and insurance, and must pass any verification checks we conduct.
- Business Customers must be valid business entities under applicable law.
3.3 Suspension / Termination
- We may suspend or terminate Accounts for violation of these Terms, fraudulent behaviour, unsafe conduct, or prolonged inactivity.
- You may close your Account by notifying support in the app or on the website, subject to any outstanding obligations.
4. Booking, Accepting, and Completing Trips / Orders
4.1 Booking by Rider / Business
- Riders and Businesses submit trip or delivery requests including pickup and drop-off details.
- The Platform may show an estimated fare or upfront fare before confirmation, where that feature is available.
4.2 Driver / Courier Acceptance
- Drivers and Couriers may accept or reject requests at their own discretion.
- Once a request is accepted, the Driver or Courier is responsible for completing the Trip or Order in a professional manner.
4.3 Changes During Trips / Orders
- If a Rider or Business changes the destination significantly during a Trip, the Fare may be recalculated, including where an upfront fare was used.
- Drivers should notify Volta Ryde if such changes materially affect cost or time.
4.4 Cancellation
- Riders and Businesses may cancel a request, but cancellation fees may apply depending on timing and our in-app cancellation policy.
- Drivers may also cancel before or after acceptance in line with our cancellation policy and applicable law.
5. Payment
5.1 In-app Payment
- Where available, payment of Fares is made via the Platform using supported methods such as credit or debit card, mobile wallet, or other options we provide.
- Volta Ryde acts as a limited payment collection agent to collect payments from Riders and Businesses and forward them to Drivers or Couriers, less the Volta Ryde Fee.
5.2 Tipping
- Riders and Businesses may tip Drivers or Couriers through in-app payment methods where enabled.
- Tipping does not reduce the Volta Ryde Fee and we do not take a commission on tips.
5.3 Payment Timing
- Fares (less any applicable fees) are forwarded to Drivers and Couriers periodically, for example weekly, to their registered bank accounts.
- Drivers and Couriers must provide accurate bank details. If bank details are incorrect or funds are unclaimed, we may hold such funds for a limited period (for example 90 days) before they expire or are handled as required by law.
5.4 Disputes / Fare Adjustments
- If there is a Fare calculation error, Drivers, Riders, or Business Customers may submit a fare review request through the app.
- Volta Ryde reserves the right to adjust or cancel Fares where discrepancies, fraud, misuse, or technical errors are detected.
6. Promotions, Discounts & Promo Codes
- We may issue promotional codes or discounts to Riders or Businesses, each subject to specific terms and conditions.
- Promo credits may apply per Trip or Order, and any unused credit may not roll over or may expire as stated in the promotion terms.
- We reserve the right to revoke or cancel promotional codes or benefits in cases of suspected misuse, fraud, or expiration.
7. Ratings, Feedback, and Conduct
7.1 Ratings & Feedback
- Riders and Businesses can rate Drivers and Couriers and provide feedback through the Platform.
- Drivers and Couriers may likewise rate Riders and Businesses where this feature is enabled.
- We may review ratings and feedback and may suspend or terminate Accounts with consistently poor ratings or serious violations of these Terms or our policies.
7.2 Expected Behaviour
- All users must treat each other with respect. Abusive behaviour, harassment, discrimination, or illegal activity may lead to Account suspension or termination.
- Drivers and Couriers must provide services professionally, follow traffic rules, and must not make unauthorised stops or detours.
- Riders and Businesses must not request unauthorised, illegal, or dangerous detours and must comply with applicable law.
8. Liability, Disclaimers & Insurance
8.1 Volta Ryde Role
We operate as a marketplace Platform that matches Riders and Business Customers with Drivers and Couriers. We are not the direct
provider of transportation or delivery services; Drivers and Couriers are independent providers responsible for delivering the
services.
8.2 Liability Limits
We provide the Platform on an as is and as available basis and do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. To the
maximum extent permitted by Nigerian law, our liability for issues such as errors, outages, or cancellations is limited. In
no event will Volta Ryde be liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits, arising from the use of the
Platform, except where required by Nigerian law.
8.3 Driver / Courier Liability
Drivers and Couriers are responsible for meeting all legal obligations, including holding a valid driving licence, vehicle
insurance, registration, permits, and any other regulatory requirements. If damages occur, including to Rider or recipient
property, the Driver or Courier may be liable under applicable law.
9. Lost Items
If a Rider or Business Customer leaves an item in a vehicle or during a delivery, they should report it to Volta Ryde support
immediately through the app or our contact channels.
Drivers and Couriers are required to make reasonable efforts to return lost items. If an item is not returned within a
reasonable timeframe, we may facilitate recovery or escalate the matter, including involving local authorities, in line with
our lost-item policy and applicable law.
10. Data Protection & Privacy
We process personal data about Riders, Drivers, Couriers, and Business Customers in accordance with our Privacy Policy and
applicable Nigerian data protection laws.
By using our Platform, you consent to the collection, use, and sharing of your data as described in our Privacy Policy. You
should read that document carefully to understand how we handle your information.
11. Termination & Suspension
We may suspend or terminate your Account if you breach these Terms, engage in fraudulent or unsafe behaviour, or otherwise
misuse the Platform.
You may terminate your use of the Platform and close your Account by contacting our support or using the in-app options,
subject to any notice period and settlement of outstanding amounts.
After termination, certain obligations, including payment obligations and our legal data retention duties, may continue to
apply.
12. Changes to Terms
We may amend these Terms from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app, our
website, email, or other appropriate channels.
Continued use of the Platform after an amendment takes effect means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree with
the updated Terms, you must stop using the Platform.
13. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Platform will be subject to the exclusive
jurisdiction of the courts in Delta State, Nigeria, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
